Is there a way to adjust the tension on the hood release handle under the dash?

I have this little annoying squeak that comes and goes in the dash board.

I think that the release handle under the dash is the problem. When I put a little (slight) pressure on the handle as if to release the hood, the noise seems to quiet down.

Is there a "turn buckle" or something? I'm going to tackle this one this weekend.

Thanks!

Before you do anything with the release handle, try greasing the actual hood latch pins and latch mechanisms. If they get dry, you'll get a squeak that seems to be coming from within the dashboard.

Live well,

Thanks- I will take a look at that.

I'm thinking the noise if coming from somewhere internal; I can do the tap-tap-tap with my finger on the edge of the dash and recreate the noise sometime. I've had everything apart a dozen times.

I'll drop the kick panel and play with the cables and see if I can come up with something,

Greasing the hood pins is probably the best place to start. Also lubricate the release cables while you are at it. If the lube allows the latches to engage further and pull more cable, the "looseness" in the release handle under the dash may disappear.

Otherwise if the latches and cables work fine but the rattling sound really bothers you, maybe stuff something into the release handle hinge area so it is not loose... ?

Excellent suggestion- I had more noise coming from that area than I realized. A bit of grease, some white lithium grease spray and slathering on the fittings did make a difference. A quick ride around the block and I can tell a huge difference!

It certainly got one of my two squeaks- THANKS!

Now the next one seems to be AC duct related; funny when it is coolish it is quiet and makes noise after a bit of driving. Maybe something is expanding?
