Hello everyone,
Tis the season here in Washington to have heat.....well mine blows cold air and I'm at a loss as to what else to check. I've flushed....back flushed the system till clear (yuk that GM sealant called for in the LT1's is some nasty stuff..never again will I use !!)When the car is off and the ign. on it seems to be moving something in there (door ?)when I hold the climate control from 60 to 90. I have no leaks in the cabin and coolant is full(new thermo too !!) Anyway I seem to remember a guy saying something about resoldering something because of heat on a early c4 .....what was it and would it apply on my 1993?
Thanx in advance hope to be warm soon ! :nopity
I recently repaired my heat in my '89 by resoldering a couple of big resistors. The hot/cold door was stuck in the cold position. You can verify the operation of this door under the hood. On top of the ac plenum near the windsheild, there is a module of some sort with 3 screws in it. The plenum has ac lines going into it on the firewall. This module has a wire harness on it. Remove the 3 screws and look in the hole and to the passenger side. You will then see the hot/cold door. Crank the car (vacuum) and go between 60 and 90 degress to see if the door moves. Mine didn't so I removed the ac programmer. It is next to the steering column on the firewall under the dash. Remove the hush panel to get to it. It is a circuit board with wires and vacuum lines running to it. It is housed in a black box. Remove this board(note vacuum line positions because not all colors match up) and resolder any loose joints on the board. The two big resistors on the corner get hot and the joints become cold over time. Resolder and reinstall. Hope this helps. :)
There are two resisters in the programmer that might need to be resoldered. In addition, depending on what year yours is, it might be a vacum problem. There may be a vacum t near the distriburor cap that, over time, will crack causing a leak and not causing the temperature door actuator to work.
My 96 LT1 (Camaro) heater was blowing cold air, it ended up being the lower heater hose was pulled up to high and pinched between the radiator shroud and upper radiator hose...
I thought I was the only one with frosty toes (although in San Diego I can't complain too much :D ).
The heater on mine has never worked. The previous owner had two different dealers work on it under warranty. Each said the heater core was plugged, pulled the dash out and replaced the core. Nada, no heat, nothin.
Another dealer was sure it was the heater door until he proved that it worked just fine.
If I crank it up to 90 and the engine is hot, I get about 15 seconds of heat.
