C4 Tech/Performance L98 Corvette and LT1 Corvette Technical Info, Internal Engine, External Engine

Need advice on this crankshaft.....

Default Need advice on this crankshaft.....

Guys, I've been kittyfooting around (can I say that :confused: ) for long enough. I'm considering several options and I may have a chance to buy a forged steel crank from a ZZ4 for under $300. Does anyone know how much hp these will safely handle in both a 2bolt main block and in a 4 bolt main. I dont plan on going over 6000rpm often, if at all. I'm in the parts collecting stage. I may go for a forged 355 over a cast crank 383.

I guess I couldnt say that....it changed it for me :lol:

theres a camaro ss down at my shoppe which is the shoppe car. its a camaro with 4 bolt mains . It has a scat crank in it. Cast crank. rated at 750 horses. the car makes over 500 horse and is dragged regularly. i think people spending $$ on forged cranks are :conehead its simply not needed.

Well, I've heard good things about 383 scat 9000 series cranks and I know I can pick up a new one of those for $225. It's 1 piece rear seal for late models. I guess if it's good for 750 hp I wont be breaking it anytime soon. I just need to do a bit more research on the balancing aspects of using something like that. With a forged 3.48 stroke crank its basically a drop in proceedure but if I used the scat 383 would I need to use a new flywheel, damoner etc etc.
