Have an 87 Corvette that's pretty clunky on the road, has been that way since I've had it. Where should I start with replacing on the suspension?
You Pose a Loaded question to throw parts is not advisable, inspect the suspension make sure the shocks are tight, The Hub Bearings are not worn out with excessive play find what is loose then repair/replace Smartly.
Things to look at Exhaust and Hangers.
Spare tire holder, you would be surprised how many cars have the Tire holder on the lower notch by the Licence plate & on the drop down position by the Diff.
Sway Bar Bushings & Link Ends.

Kind of what I was dealing with here is a before and after. Note
Very hard to tell if the ujoints are bad because the spring is tensioning them inward.
Strut rod bushings are hard to tell if bad because you cant see them.
trailing arm bushings in the pick looked ok but they were pushed all different ways.
jack the tire and try to move it 3-9 and 12-6 to check hubs.
Now that I have most replaced I learned it is better to do the ones that affect alignment the most first. I have been to the alignment shop 2x and one more trip should do it.
Good luck
You need to listen to your car to help diagnose the clunking. Shocks would rattle all the time. Universals would clunk as you get on or get off the gas. Then there is sway bars and other parts.
Not sure of the definition of "Clunky" in your case but I'd check the shock ends. If the rubber there is worn out; it would leave play causing a rattle as the suspension worked.
If you have to replace rubber parts in the suspension there is a kit that has everything and look for the word "Neoprene." A better longer lasting repair.
