Every once in awhile when starting up and turning at low speed, I will hear a 'grinding' sound like the passenger side rear brake has gone amuck. This noise is intermittent and that is what puzzles me. No 'grinding' sound when coming to a stop sign. Also, sometimes when I go from park to reverse I hear a 'clunk' like a U joint is going out (car is an auto). Car drives fine with no 'wobble' down the road one would expect with a bad U joint? Then again sometimes I hear a 'sharp cracking' noise upon first startup after going from park, reverse to drive?
I've looked under the car and everything seems fine? I don't have the facilities to do a proper inspection and have decided to bring her into the shop. The manager was a Corvette guy who owned both a C4 and then a C5. The car only has 52,000 miles on her and I'm certain it was never driven hard in it's 25 year life span. Just a old guys touring vehicle........
Any off the cuff ideas on what could be going on?

There are 6 u-joints only takes one to be a problem and not create a wobble, next could be rear wheel bearing, or maybe a differential problem. You need to get the car on a lift to diagnose.

Thanks, going on lift tomorrow, thinking it's a U joint.
