Default Finally got it started yesterday

I am so happy that I got the engine started yesterday. Its my first ever playing with any engine and work alone 90% of the time. I didn't even know how to install the distributor back .

Few questions:

1. How important is it to have all the grounding contact point clean?

I did not clean the paint off the negative cable ground point on the engine block, above the oil filter  , and the contact point of the starter with the block. Had problem getting the starter to kick in, then I cleaned the connection points of the starter, the three wires that connected to the starter with sand paper and the car started easier.

2. Should I drop the starter and clean the paint off the block? I thought the thread of the two bolts would be sufficient for grounding.

3. the car is 1988 Corvette, I reused the cam and lifter. Do I need to have the engine running at 2000 rpm for half and hour?

TIA

1. Paint over grounds has caused me lots of problems. Either clean off the paint or buy the appropriate sized "star" washer and install closest to the paint side. As you tighten the bolt, the washer digs in to the metal. Or, do both. I can't tell you how many hours I've spent chasing problems and it was a bad ground. (sigh) When will I learn.

2. Starter bolts should be sufficient.

3. Was the 2000 RPM/30 minutes published in some manual? Sounds like something one could do. Good for checking leaks, temps, keep computer in closed loop, etc. Did you overhaul the enigne or what?

I had to rebuild the engine, but reused the cam, lifter and crank shaft.

Someone on the forum and a friend said to break in the new cam and lifter. Since I used the old cam and lifter, I don't have to

I was contemplating grinding the paint off of my new block's ground point also. I left it on. I'm going to take the risk that the bolt will transmit enough of a ground. There is also one of those star washers that should cut through the enamel anyways. We'll see.

Are you talking about the engine block?
I don't remember a star washer on the ground point of the negative cable to the engine block. It was easier to install the ground before the exhaush manifold in place

At first, I thought that I burnt a fuselink while the car was down all those time last year. Couldn't get the engine to even turn over or have a click from the starter when turning key to start the car. Even thought that I mess up on the rebuild too

Yup. Right above the oil filter and oil temperature sender. Mine had a big bolt, the grounds, then the star washer, then the block.

I looked at it over last weekend. Mine had two wires to it, one small wire and the other is the negative battery cable. I guess I lost the star washer on it.
