Default Oil pan gasket replacement.

Can the oil pan gasket be replaced on a 90 while the motor is in? Any steps? Pic's?

Sorry, I am sure this has been answered many times but I must just not know how to use the search feature. I can never pull up topics that I am looking for. I tried oil pan, pan, oil pan gasket, pan gasket and even oil gasket which I knew would not work. I did not get a single thread appear.

I have had the best luck going to advanced search and clicking the area under where you put in the search term and clicking on search titles only.

100% it can. its an L98 and i've done two of them myself.

remove everthing that is in the way down there, i removed the driver side angle cross brace (2 bolts) to make it even easier.

i unbolted the starter and just rested it above the fuel lines i think.

DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN the bolts when you put it back in!!!!!

i have found that the best way to search for corvette c4 information, and i've done it probably 10,000 times since buying my first bet 3 years ago is by: put this into google ---> corvette c4 [whatever you want to find]

9/10 times i end up on a thread from corvetteforum.com

one way to keep track of the nutz that come off the oil pan is to simply take a picture, or, grab a piece of paper or cardboard and use a pen and draw a diagram and put the nuts in teh right spot for safekeeping out of the way so it doesn't get bumped.

IF you feel like the oilpan is "hung up" on something, turn the engine over by hand by takening a socket on the crankbolt and move the crank out of the way of interfering with dropping the pan. in the two i have done, i have never had that issue but i have read others having needing to turn the engine over by a few degrees.

I replaced my 85's oil pan gasket, and I don't recall having any problems with the engine in place. the same should apply to your 90. one note, pay attention to the location of nuts, bolts, studs, brackets, etc. seems to me, there are around 20 individual pieces of hardware. suggestion - get a fel-pro one-piece, blue silicone rubber gasket, and use a torque wrench - torque to spec (left-right, front-rear pan nuts at 16 in.lbs, and remaining hardware at 18 in.lbs). be **** and do it by the book - no shortcuts, and don't bubba anything - it's a real pain if you have to go in there a second time. the complete procedure is covered in the 1990 FSM, engine mechanical, section 6A1-22 and 23
typical 1990 pan installation -

It's what I have and it works perfectly. Don't jack around with anything else.

Put a little RTV in the corner pockets by the rear cap and timing cover. Problem solved.
