I am getting ready to replace the broken heater core which is bypassed right now. This is on a '91 automatic (don't know if that makes a difference or not). How difficult of a job is it? What is the correct proceedure for replacement?? Are there any special tips you guys have, or any odd ball tools/supplies I am going to need? Any advise you have would be great!
Steel nuckles and profanity and beer and about 4-6 hours. Seriously just take your time and remove everything you can to get to it, I have done mine twice, Practice yoga prior. Good luck,If you do a search you should find some very helpfull tips.
Do yourself a favour and take it in!!!! Alldata says the labour time is 4.2 hours. Took my mechanic 7.5 hours but he could only charge me for book time!!!!
The dash was off ... stereo out ... inside of car almost apart!!! Roof was off so the mechanic had somewhere to put his feet!!!
:yesnod: Just a horrible job and yes ... practise tour YOGA for about a week before ya start!!!!
After reading one of the posts here that referenced an article on the subject (Don't try this at home), I took mine in to the shop. They replaced the heater core and also the heater shutoff valve. The total bill set me back quite a bit, but it's done and I didn't swear at all (but I cried as I paid the bill). Good luck, whichever route you choose to take! :)
