This is a recent development... when I'm cruising along straight, everything is fine. However, when I make a fast turn or change lanes at highway speeds, I smell gasoline. Could there be a crack in my gas tank? WTF?
does the symptom change with the amount of fuel in the tank?....... It could be a cap that doesn't seal but yes it could be a leaky tank.......... any other conditions? :seeya
It doesn't seem to change with the amount of gas in tank. I will purchase a new cap though, just to make sure. However, if it is just a bad cap, would I be able to smell it in the car like I do?
OK good point........ I'd check it out then by removing that boot around the cap then and making sure everything's tight there. Also make sure the bolts are tight around the pump unit and that the gasket there isn't leaking........ at this point you may be able to see something...... do you have your spare tire holder in place ?..........if not you may be able to see a lot of the tank from UNDER the car :seeya
Evap System:
There's a charcoal canister back under the passenger side rear quarter panel, kind of near the muffler. There is a third hose coming out of the gas tank that vents into the canister when pressure builds up in the tank and a vacuum line to pull the fumes back into the intake/throttle body. 96 has a panel that pops off but I think to really get at it you might want to remove the wheel and wheel well.
