Anyone have some good suggestions on how to quiet a squeaky transparent roof on the C4? I have tried the anti squeal pads. No better. Have white greased all the fittings. No better. It always seems to happen more at night and in the cold.
Have you run a Armour All type silicone product around all the roof gaskets?
Yep. I must have the cleanest and softest roof gaskets around, but I see no improvement in the squeaking. It's not as bad or doesn't happen at all under a hot sun or this time of year... until it gets dark. I was out last night around 7 pm, no squeaking. Returned home around 9:30 pm, squeaking like crazy. My best solution to date has been to turn the radio up at night.
My 1988 used to squeak like crazy before I lubricated the seals on the roof and doors. I tried Vaseline first on the rubber seals on my roof panel and doors. That finally stopped the noise and made the car more water tight then ever. The problem is that Vaseline can cause the seals to break down faster than normal. It is a petroleum based product and that is not good for the longevity of the rubber weatherstripping seals.
I read that "die-electric grease" is good for making the seals last longer and reducing the noises made by the seals.
White Lithium grease is not a good lubricant for the rubber seals as it gets hard when it is cold. I used to use it on everything myself before I learned that it's cold properties are not the greatest. I have stopped using it on my cars.
Die-electric grease does not make your seals stick when cold. I would remove the white lithium and replace it with Die-Electric grease.
If this does the trick, great, if not then you might have to consider new weatherstripping to solve your problem.
Have you determined whether the squeaks are from the weatherstrips or from the mounting hardware? Are you using a roof wrench to tighten the mounting bolts, or an electric screwdriver type of tool? Are you tightening the rear bolts first, and then the front bolts? You may need to adjust the mounting brackets to have the roof fit more tightly against the weatherstrips.
Is it possible that your acrylic panel is becoming detached from your roof frame? Do you hear wind noise from your roof when you're at speed?
