How long to swap an Opti?

I've had mine on and off four times in the last seven months chasing an oil leak. You get REALLY fast at it after a while, especially when you know exactly which tools to grab, and when. Anti-seize between the pulley and hub and on the pulley bolts really speeds things up.
BTW, yes, I fixed the leak.

Sac City unit still going strong. Another year, and one dousing....still working great.

Possibly. The first time I did mine, the damper was stuck pretty good. Strategic beating w/a bar and hammer got it fairly quickly though...it probably only added 10 minutes to the job. That time, I painted the hub and damper flange with never-seize, and this time, it came right off like butter.
The biggest time-suck this time was sorting and hooking up the plug wires (I should have labelled them when removing), and gasket scraping.
Started gasket scraping tonight at around 5:00....

Here it is, running.

So that was 2 hours working at a pretty leisurely pace. Labelling the wires and just dumping all the coolant from the pump removal could have saved a 1/2 hour.

I figure you probably are familiar with these, but maybe some others can benefit. I use 3M Green Roloc discs to clean up gasket surfaces ( ). They work AWESOME! I typically use it in my right angle air grinder. Low speed and light pressure is all you need, and the gasket material disappears like magic. No scraping needed. Just make sure to block off any sensitive areas to prevent any random abrasive or flying debris from getting where you don't want it.
I agree that the Opti repair isn't as bad as many make it out to be...

John
