OK, so i have a 1985 corvette that is pretty ratted out, its been sitting for a while since I havent been in a position to work on it. There is a group around here that have some pretty unique rally style cars (FRS's, Miata's, Del Sol's) looking for a starting point on suspension to get a few inches of lift? I already know the haters will come out and say buy a subaru, but this was my first car so selling is not an option but want to do something very unique with it!
It's going to be pretty difficult to raise a C4 to get ground clearance for offroad rallye. While many rallye cars don't get raised up, a lot depends on the type of roads used. Weather would play a big part too especially if you run during rainy seasons.
Will you have to install a roll bar or cage? That can really complicate things.
Sure, a Subi WRX would be a good rallye car, but there are lots of other cars that may work better. Small sedans with a 4 cylinder and manual trans can be had for cheap and would be easy to modify to fit your association's rules. They may even provide better crash protection compared to a C4.
Years ago, a good friend and his wife ran SCCA Pro Rallye here in the Pacific Northwest. They went to a state vehicle auction and bought an 1986 Fox bodied Mustang with a 5.0 and a 5-speed that had been a state police car. They gutted the interior, added the required safety stuff, timers, etc and that car managed to hit 130+ on some of the area logging roads
