Ok here is a new one.... A few weeks ago I seen that my volt gage was reading low (12.3 - 13.6) I changed the plugs and wires and then it was reading fine (one wire was split). Now in the past week I have seen my digital water temp gage was all over the place, jumping from 180 to 90 and every where in between but this was intermittent and the analog was reading fine. Now tonight I was playing around and I found out something new when I push down on the accelerator (past half throttle) the heater fan shuts off. And the car started to stall out on me at low RPMs. Oh yea and the volt gage was back down to the 12's. Any ideas and what is going on?
I just chased down a similar problem in my 95 bonniville. After replacing alt. and checking the complete wiring harness, I gave up and took it to a service garage. 1/2 hour later, found a bad ECM! I replaced the ECM, and car is back to normal! Not sure if it is your problem also, but worth checking out.
I just tryed to pull the codes and all I got was 12. I was thinking about removing the mod chip and puttin it back to stock. thanks for the reply and the info.
I pulled the codes on the Bonny also and got just what you did, 12! I couldn't find it, but when the garage hooked it to thier scanner it showed right away. TECHNOLOGY :U !
The reason you only get a 12 is because the ECM will not tell on itself. As far as your Volt gauge, plugs and wires will not have an effect on its reading, as it is reading your charging system and not your ignition system.

yes that is what I was thinking but how about this, the number 7 wire was split in 2 and arcing out on the header. Now would this "power jolt" being arced out on the header be able to send a little jolt to the ECM? thus causing it to fry out? So far every thing I have asked here you guys have been right on the money. Now I will have to call the dealership and see how badly they'er going to rape me to check it out. I did check into a new ECM at The last deal and the price is not bad, it could be worse.
I had a similar incident a few months ago. One of my plug wire boots had melted through and was sending the spark to the exhaust manifold. My digidash went  ! It would go dim, bright, normal, with the LEDs going from a regular display to nothing to ALL on. I replaced the plug wire and everything has been fine since.
In addition to grounds don't forget that sometimes we have to clean the battery cables........ even though they may LOOK clean the only way to tell for sure is take them apart...... don't forget to pull the screws out and clean behind them ........ a little grease in there helps too :seeya
