I've never done it, but when I was cutting my '93 dash, I took out the A/C vents and you can see some of the screws holding everything in place. Be careful with the airbag, I don't know exactly what to do to prevent it from going off, but pulling the fuse would be a start as well as disconnecting the battery.
Once you pull the gauge bezel and A/C vents off, it should be easy enough to see how much is involved.
IZover4u,
The pass vents are removed by prying up ( gently) on the bottom of the small black vent in the middle. I think the openings are horizontal. Once you have it out there are a couple of screws holding the vent assembly in place.
dont forget the two screws that go into the defroster vent. I think that there are 5 screws to remove under front of dash. dont pull up but straight back. if you pull up you will break it. its really simple.
I just did the dash pad a months ago to replace my door alarm chime. It's not as bad as I thought. Prolly 30 mins. You just need to know where the screws are.
1.You'll need to remove all of the air vents. Need torx driver. Behind them are a couple of screws which hold the pad down. Driver's side is easy. Pass side you need to pry up the plastic cover in the center of the vent. The screws are behind this. Once you pull the vent out, I think you see a couple of bolts below it which need to come out.
2. Remove the side plastic trim panel (pass side around fuse box). There are screws on the side. I think this will also free up the rt hand side of the knee bolster. There's nothing on the side of the dash on the driver's side.
3. Pry up the plate which holds the defroster and disconnect the AC sun sensor wires. There are two screws just below the defroster plate that need to come out.
4. Pull up and at an angle as has been suggested. There are metal clips at the back near the windshield which simply pull free. There's also a metal anchor/guide on the pass side. Don't worry about the air bag. The dash just has a door which blows open to let it out. The whole air bag package is sitting snugly beneath the pad and is not physically connected.
