I have a 89 with l98 the problem is a slight miss at idle, off idle no problem. I have changed plugs, wires, cap, rotor, cleaned the TB replaced and adjusted the IAC problem still there. I took it to a corvette shop and they told me I have a lean miss what the hell is that ????To repair they said I need new injectors. What kind of injectors are in this beast??? How hard of a job to replace or should I have these redone???
Re: l98 experts question about injectors (Bigjo-NH)
The injectors are rather easy to remove, I took mine off the car and VERY gently cleaned the outlet side with carb cleaner and an old soft bristle toothbrush. I then carefully filled them with carb cleaner from the top and let them sit for an hour or so. I emptied the carb cleaner, refilled the injectors and put them back on the car and started it. Took a bit of cranking to pump the raw carb cleaner through the injectors and get the engine running, but it really seemed to improve idle and throttle response. No ill effects here yet, but I have had people tell me this is not good for your injectors. I have a spare set, so I was not that worried.
Re: l98 experts question about injectors (BobMachus)
Not an expert but.... How many miles? Any codes? How is your fuel pressure? (40 -47 psi) Are any of the injectors leaking? Did the shop indicate which injector was bad? I would not expect all 8 of them to go bad at the same time. They are easy to remove and replace. Remove the plenum, fuel rail, diconnect plugs from the injectors and they are out. Injectors can be serviced and checked - I would send them out to a proffesional. Hope this helps :seeya
Re: l98 experts question about injectors (vader86)
They probably just need cleaning, send them to be cleaned, or buy some new Ford SVO #24s.
Most people send them to be cleaned to Rich at Cruzin Performance.
Wow, your 89 is still new. I would bet that if they are the problem they just need cleaning. I have 55k on my 89. Sent mine to Rich and they work great. It's a lot cheaper than getting new ones.
