So I went ahead and did the air lid mod. It is real rough as of now. I need to get back to it with a dremel. It was a free and easy mod. However, I feel a real difference on the top end high rev. Is this difference in my head? Has anybody actually seen a time difference in the 1/4 mile? Also the previous owner put a k AND N in it. Not sure if that helped.
Lol not like it throws you in your seat and doing a 10 quarter mile however I feel like the top end has a little extra pull from about 60mph to 80mph. I did not expect to actually tell the difference

If cutting the slit gave you any power, I don't know if it is large enough to be noticed except for a dyno
Most other gains are placebo effect
I did some drag strip testing with my car. Stock cover, cut cover, stock filter, K and N filter, no filter at all. Got the same times each way, so I put it back to stock everything.

and pulling the MAF Screens Screens I think are good for 100 to 150 CFM
Always wanted to and as soon as I can figure out the best way to do it Im going for some Ram air effect by removing the front parking light assy's and building some direct air box with screens and getting somethink like whats on my C5 Z06 on my C4 http://www.buyavette.com/New%20Pictures/421903.jpg https://www.lgmotorsports.com/media/.../v/r/vrsc1.jpg
Been wanting to get and start with this one Its nice and will give a small Ram effect just the way it is without running to the parking lights or cutting the front plate area http://www.zip-corvette.com/84-96-c4...tem-black.html
And the item that drives sales of snake oils and worthless "mods" that give UP TO X amount of power. 0 to X is a valid number. "I will give you UP TO 1 million dollars." You feel any richer?
At the risk of screwing up the MAF calibrations, I wouldn't without a tune.
And there we have the phrase "UP TO 40 HP". If I said that I promise I will give you UP TO 1 million dollars for your car. And if you believe I will give you more than a penny, dream on. Regardless, 1 penny to 1 million is going to make me truthful. Unless they guarantee that if I install that system only and don't gain the promised amount, they will pay for the dyno session and buy it back, I can tell them where to take the BS and shove it.

I'm sure it will in the SOTP dyno. Anything else, well...... Ask them if they will guarantee performance and under what conditions.
If the stock TPI Air-box only flows about 500cfm with the Dumb-*** over the radiator connection being its biggest bottleneck Why wouldn't any other or any mods that would help CFM on or over the stock box be any good or worth it?
We put on manifolds and Heads bigger tb's bigger cams pistons Stroke our motors with most having the ability to flow much more than the stock air box is able to.
Make fun all you want the stock air box makes the motor breath thur a straw

There is a book written that spells out all of these fun mods.
Actually if you wrap all of them up on one C4, and add a NOS sticker, 50 SOTPHP easy.
Have fun modding, it helps you get acquainted, bleed and bust some knuckles.
Plus you'll break something else and learn another new lesson to pass on...

My car is a 91 so we have no MAF. Tried it on the dyno with the slits and then hooked the conical filter to the TB and ran it bareback. Dyno didn't seem to notice much between the slit box and the conical filter. There was some gain between conical filter and bareback but that was on top of the curve.
Ok but how will a Dyno Even see 100mph plus of the air flow charging thur the noses of our cars and the effect it has on air flow to our engines, I think Cold air run from outside underhood hot temps hooked to the front nose helps a lot, IMO just like Cowl Induction and Cuda' and Trans-am Scoops are. I was quoting what Ive read. Ive never had a Dyno check of my air box mods or can they tell ya whats happening at high speed
I have read a lot of posts/test/opinions about the cut lid mod.
The conclusion that I reached was that it does help, but the gains are so small that you will probably not be able to tell the difference.
The difference in flow between different filters may be more than whether the lid is cut or not. I have also read that the stock type paper element filter may flow better than a K&N. The K&N is a lifetime filter and may be a good choice for a lot of people. Again the difference in flow between filters is so small that you will probably not be able to tell the difference.
The cut lid mod is free and may help some and certainly can't hurt, so why not try it.
