Default 1992 a4 future engine build ideas

would like some suggestions on a future engine build. I went ahead with 3.54 gears in my Dana 44 rebuild and am very happy with it. So don't want to change gears. I would like a low 12second dd. The engine is stock with 77,000 miles on it. Budget is as little as possible to get there without nitrous or sc. thanks in advance.

Not sure but it out ran a 2017 mustang. Barely. It wasn't a gt. They do 14 seconds in 1/4 so my best guess is high 13's.

Traction is a big problem also. It spins all through 1st and into second. So I would like some 17x11 wheels on back with better tires.

I think you need to make a baseline run to see how much improvement you need to make. Probably best to do after going to larger tires/wheels.

Besides sticky tires you might consider a 3000 RPM stall converter and transmission cooler.

Your torque curve is peaking all the way through first and lighting the tires up. Adding the converter will be like slipping the clutch with a manual. Corvettes are so light to begin with you really have to hook strong but not overcome your traction.

I'm going with 3.54's in my '94 LT-1 Convertible so I'm taking notes.

The V6 stangs have over 300hp if it ran 14s then.....

I dont know what "cheap as possible" means. What kind of dollar figure are you thinking of? Can you do your own wrenching, know somoene who knows how to port?

If you can its so much easier to get there by adding a larger crank. Chasing rpm with smaller engine gets expensive. Sure many here have done it over 1000 times with the small stroke and figured that one out

Allways go big as you can there is no downside to it period! Youll never do a 350 again guarantee it.

Never believed the hype of bigger stroke engines til I went for a ride in a very mild but well thought about 93 Ruby..got back in my then overcammed 350 El camino and hated the drive home. LOL

I am just looking for the most economical way to get low 12's. wide sticky tires are in the plans already.

NO2 would be lowest dollar per horsepower to get there. 100-200 hp kit all you need.

Low 12's is pretty ambitious goal.. That's where the new C7 ZO6 is with a supercharger - think about it. And they have traction problems even with computer controlled transmission traction. The computer actually calculates torque to control wheel spin.

So I see you have experienced the 700R4/4L60E low 3.06 gearing with any kind of off idle torque. In my 4th gen Camaro my wheel spin is so bad with my new cam and torque converter I can't get my 60' times down to anything reasonable. So I need to get lowering brackets to try and fix this. But that is a straight axle car and I don't know what is similar fix in a corvette IR. But this is where you should start as it will only get worse with more torque and higher stall converter. BTW there is a table in TunerCats software for timing advance off idle. When you are ready to tune you should adjust this.

As far as low 12's that will take a big cam with big compression and much better breathing heads. Be ready for a lot of work and cost$$$. All those will need a tune also. DIY TunerCats software is almost $300 by itself and a '92 has EPROM chip that needs a burner/programmer.

What I'm saying is you are at the starting end of a very long road. Let us know when you get the traction under control and we can help with engine mods from there.

One issue I see with it is the back end squats bad when you take off. I don't know what would help plant more weight in the back with irs. It would be an easy fix with a solid axle.
