Pulled into work this evening. I generally throw my Z51 car into neutral a block before I get to the entrance. As I got to the garage gate - an awful racket began. I hoped upon hope it was something in the building where I work... but the sound followed me through the garage, though the garage is pretty open.
When I backed into my space, I shut her off. Engine temp was about 219º. The sound persisted, and I'd noted the noise's pitch changed with varying inputs: Window, key position, et cetera. Got out, and placed my hand over where the fan would be; there was a distinct vibration. Opened the hood, and as it's night, I didn't see anything. Also, I had to relieve my colleague, so I had no time for exploration
I disconnected the battery to keep the fan from running. Called my mechanical genius Dad, who said it could be a bladee slighttly off, a broken bracket, or a twig or some-such that got into the fan. He said it could also be a bearing gone bad. He told me to spin the fan and see if I could find the problem. I said it had sounded like something hitting something, and he said that's probably it.
When I get off work, I'm going ot see if I can find the issue. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Jimmy Stewart would agree that your "Father knows best". You need to isolate your noise and then it will become apparent what is wrong. Spinning the fan will tell you lots.
Could be the bearing. Mine made would make such a terrible noise when the fan would kick on, that, if it happened at a light, people in a car next to mine would look over. When I spun the fan by hand, I could hear the bearing had gone bad. Replaced the fan, no more noise.
Thank you all for your replies. Had our building engineer come down to my car when he got to work, to provide another set of eyes and ears. Turns out - it's the headlamp motor, right side. Not a drivability issue. So that is good, at least.
