Default Hard Starting

Well I can't seem to get around to fixing one problem before another one shows up. 1995 the engine seems to turn over a lot before starting. Does it all the time hot or cold. Once it starts it runs great. Suggestions on where to look ?

From there then go to primary ignition parts.... plugs, wires, car & rotor...

Could fuel pressure be a problem even though it runs great after starting?

Just had the opti spark and water pump replaced a month ago. I guess it could be a faulty opti this soon?

Possible, yes, but not probable.... Do what Dan suggests and check fuel pressure. Have you changed the fuel filter in a while? Plugs and wires done at the time the distributor was replaced? How many miles on the engine? Fuel injectors might also be an issue. If your fuel pressure is what it should be, and youre sure the primary ignition parts are all good, theres no codes etc. Then it might be a good idea to check the injectors.

Wires a couple of years old. Not sure about the fuel filter. Car has around 112k.

if it does it everytime, is the lt1 like the l98 where if the fuel pressure relay fails, the computer waits until psi builds up then it activates the fuel pump?

Oh, you bet.

Your system should be under pressure all the time so when you turn the key, your system is full on ready to go. If you system looses pressure (for any variety of reasons) the pump will have to spool up and re pressurize the system, thus the extra spins

Have you tried turning the key forward and counting to 3 before cranking? If it starts quicker (less turning) then you system just is not holding pressure and you can decide where to go from there.

I just went out and tried this. I can hear the pump run for a few seconds. I cycled the key three times and tried to crank on the third. It did seam to crank a little quicker. Where could it be loosing pressure? I'm going to try and follow suggestions over the weekend and if I can't figure it out I'll have to take it back to my brother in laws shop. Wish me luck.

Injectors
FPR
Rubber hose on the sending unit inside the tank connecting the pump and feed line
I would still replace the fuel filter and see whats in it...

Can you give us a better idea on what your cranking time feels like? Actually second timing or a video? One persons "slow crank" is "ops normal" for someone else.

I have two C4s. Both start ever time without fail but each start evolution seems to be different. Sometimes 1/2 a spin, sometimes 4-5.

Before I started having problems it would probably turn over a half and crank now it more like 6-8. It has cranked better since I started turning the key on a couple of times before trying to start though.

You don't need to go back and forth; just turn it to run and count to 3.
