Default 89 Alternator

I recently replaced my Delco alternator with a generic one and it seems to get very, very hot. It seems to make some noise as well. Is this normal or is there a problem? Thanks for any thoughts and help.
Rick.

there is obviously something wrong with its bearings, take it back and get another, its probably just a bad one the next one will be fine

I was on a trip when my Delco went out, I replaced it with a O'Riles life time alternator. Well, 2.5 weeks later it was so hot it couldn't be touched for over an hour after shut off and it too made a winey noise, in addition to no longer putting out the required volts to keep it alive. Take it back and get another one, its about to die. When they rebuild them they only replace the parts that are bad and leave the rest untouched. This is why purchasing remanufactudred parts is a bad thing. But alternators are an easy thing to replace compared to many other parts, its worth the gamble here. :yesnod:

:D As someonelse said, some rebuilds only replace the obviously worn parts.

There are two grades of electrical parts, top of the line and cheaper

Top of the line generally costs around $ 20.00 more

Try a NAPA Gold and tell them you want the complete rebuild
