I need advice from some of you guys. Seeing the intake is off...I am wondering if I should have my injectors tested for flow, or leaking? There is close to 40K on them. Never really had a problem,...but it's apart, and I'd rather be safe than sorry? 26#s they are
Hi JD,
Not sure if they need checking with that mileage but ya never know eh?Maybe Rich from cruzin performance can give them a look over.I dont know his number but someone here does.
Also,One easy way to check at home for leaking injectors is to keep the fuel rail attached to the fuel lines but lift it off the intake.
Turn the key to ON but not start or run to prime the fuel rail with pressure and then turn key to off.If any droplets form on an injector, its consider to be leaky.
Thats one way I know of doing so.I still think rich or someone can test them best.
Thanks for the replies. 40K isn't much mileage...but I do have a littttle delay in hot starts sometimes. It could be the program also. Not sure. They hold pressure very well with the fuel pressure gauge.
No way to test them now, everything is off.
Corky...26 pounders are only $200? Maybe I'll just get new ones.
h rocks....thats why i asked. mine i think are accels. i certainly don't want to go smaller(fords are 24) if i had to, i'd do 30# and they could be tamed by the sefi dfi thats going in once this is all sorted out.
I'm having mine checked by a reputable local place first, then I'll go from there. They'll clean and flow them to see if they're leaking..hopefully not.
Keep in mind one train of thought is that you get better fuel control running a slightly smaller injector at higher pulse rates. The 90 and 91 speed density L98s did this on purpose for better fuel control.
LPE said to stick to the 26s, unless I'm upping the HP there really isn't a need for the larger one's...and Scorp...they did mention what you just said.
How the heck do you get the injectors off the fuel rails. Oh you ought to see my rails! :D little sanding, steel wooling, polishing. They look like a mirror. I dropped off the runners to be powdercoated "wrinkle" black. $75 for both, they'll be ready by Friday. If it looks good, I'm doing the SR.
JD there should be small metal "locks" hold them in. On the inner side of the rails you should see a small tab. Grab something like a flathead screwdriver and give it a turn (thinks....) counterclockwise to unlock them and then wiggle/pull them out.
