so I lost 3-OD in my 95 which seems to be a typical problem with these trannys............I believe its a 4L60E . I could have it rebuilt but am thinking about just getting a rebuilt unit and having it installed in one painless shot and not messing with the existing one.. have done some research and total cost will also be lower in general. just believe me, it will!
Question is for you tranny experts here is their a certain model/type or is it just refered to as a 4L60E and is their anything I need to look for when buying one ??

Do watch out for this; with many rebuilt transmissions if you do not purchase a new TC from the rebuild shop they will give you no warranty on the rebuilt transmission. Read the fine print on the web sites.
If the GM Assembly was still available from the dealer I'd be very tempted to do a GM reman. The GM reman has 3/36 & 100,000 and isn't required to be installed at the dealer. The warranty disclaimer is a little vague but I know several that have purchased the GM product with "no issues" and I know one fellow that had an issue and it was just removed and another to replace it.
You need to have a conversation with the dealer you're interested in buying from but I'd be very tempted if the car was a "keeper"!!
I believe this is still current GM Warranty document - you might want to check for current documents and of course - Is it still available?
I'd say this only applies if you know the shop/builder or they offer up a very good warranty. The shop will need to disassemble to actually confirm the issues and mention what they'll ''upgrade" during the build. I know a couple I'd trust but I'd certainly have a conversation with them explaining what they'll actually do and with what parts! If there's a GM unit available their build would have to be substantially LESS money and a warranty that was for more than "out the driveway/over the curb"
I'd say it's very easy to end up on the "short end of this type a deal".
OP ain't been back. It might be interesting to see if he's had conversations and maybe already made a decision.
