Swap over the whole pumpkin. A used one shouldn't be too hard to find.

I installed the Yukon 3.54 thick gear in my 1993 and really like it. I almost wish I'd gone with a 3.73! With the stock 2.59's, 85 mph was around 1800 rpm's and 28 mpg. Now at 85 mph, it's around 2600 - 2700 rpm's and 18 mpg. Although mileage isn't a big concern for me since it's not a Daily Driver, it still gets (according to the computer) around 25 mpg at 78 mph. After this speed, the mpg drops considerably. Although the gear was a big difference in SOTP feel, the long tube headers I installed after the gears seemed to do more than the gear. Of course, this could have been due to the combination. If it was my money, I wouldn't go less than a 3.54 and not more than a 3.73, unless you are going to really bang on it. Then the Dana 44 would be the recommended route to take. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Thanks Boss Lady!... I think I will venture on the 'wild' side and go bigger than 3.07...

Default This is what I am going to do....

I do want more punch and I did have a 3.08 in my 1970 Vette, so to that end I have opted for the 3.36 rear end. It is a custom gear that Mike's Corvette offers in Anaheim.

It will have more get up and go, plus Mike's will handle the whole speedometer issue which I know is a complete pain for Vette's from 91-93 before the new on-board computer in 1994, which makes everything much more simple.

Thanks for all the input, I will let you know how it goes...

Maybe slightly irrelevant because of the car type.... but I had a 79 z28 that came stock with a 2.73 and upgraded to a 3.73.... It was a very nice upgrade and woke the car up considerably.

I have a 95 coupe automatic and went from a 2.59 to the 3.54 from Zip corvette parts and couldn't be happier. 2000 rpm at 70 yields about 18 mpg but the additional punch during acceleration is worth all the money.. this ratio is what chevy should have used from the start. you will not be disappointed.

never seen someone add gear and regret it..3.45 or so should be the minumim in these cars, 307 or 2x is just for mileage..pukey boring EPA gears. Hit the gas pedal and have lunch waiting for the car to pick up speed.
Know they call those gears performance, they are anything but
Even my 02 truck came stock with a 3.73 posi

Your truck can't be used as a reasonable comparison - tire dimensions actually have very much to do with an "actual" final-drive.

Small world! I'm in Irvine too, and looking for a closer shop rather than trekking all the way to J&D in Bellflower. Would you recommend this shop?

I just found out about those guys a week ago, and dropped my car off today at Mark's! Met Scott too, really friendly guys!

I wish we had a shop here in South Florida that could do the whole job. Best I can find is one shop to pull the "Pumpkin" and then I take it to another shop to rebuild the differential including the new gear. I'm looking at a possible conflict between shops if the guy installing the new gears isn't on the same schedule as the shop that removes and replaces the differential. I feel like I might become a Ping Pong ball in this deal and it bothers me.

Any South Florida guys on the forum know of a local shop that will do the total job ?
