Default Mail order chips/tuning

OK, so I’m under the impression that to tune an LT1 I have to burn a chip each time. I’m getting ready to install headers and I was wondering if I mail order a tune can I also have the AIR and EGR disabled in the tune. My headers don’t have these outlets anymore and I’d just assume not have them anyways. Also, does anyone have any luck with mail order LT1 stuff or any recommendations on who to use?

In your case, I would recommend you find someone to disable the EGR and AIR (if it has a CEL issue). I doubt you will see much for the headers so anyone who can program just that without fooling with the fuel and advance, etc table will be fine. If they can do it for free, even better.

I'm not a fan of mail order tunes because to me, it is like asking for a suit for a guy that is 6'3, 220#. Well, we have to make some assumptions. Dyno tuning for an LT1 with just headers probably won't make enough difference to justify a tune. Now if you are going to add cams, different injectors, intake, etc, it might be good to do all at once and dyno tune.

I would recommend Ed Wright at FASTCHIPS. He has re-burned the chip for my modified 92 LT1 several times when I have swapped out camshafts and/or injectors. He is extremely knowledgeable and I've had great success with his mail tunes. He'll provide you with a very detailed engine spec sheet to fill out and send along with your chip. My corvette tech attended the GM training programs in Michigan a number of years ago ... Ed was GM's instructor for ignition and computer systems for corvettes, so he knows what he's doing. Besides, Ed also races Gen II LT1 powered machines. One last thing ... the chips used in 92 and 93 LT1 motors must be re-burned. Those used in 94 thru 96 LT1s can be reflashed ... I wouldn't recommend it unless you really know what you are doing.
