Default Exhaust manifold bolt/stud placement

Hey folks, hopefully a quick and easy question here. I'm working on putting my 86 L98 back together from an engine rebuild. Getting ready to put the exhaust manifolds back on it and as you know, most of them are bolts, with some of them being combination bolt/studs for other mounts/supports.

The engine has been rebuilt before so I am not positive they were in the same position as factory so I wanted to ask.

My question relates to the position of the bolt/stud combination. I know that there should be one of these on the driver side and two on the passenger, but can someone please confirm the position of these bolts on both sides?

I've looked in the factory service manual, but the diagram isn't crystal clear.

Thanks in advance

You should have 3 studs on each Manifold Size 10x1.5 about 4" long

I believe the OP is looking for manifold to cylinder head! None are M10

I'm not an L98 guy so I thought I'd just let it pass and let an early L98 guy post. It needs to be an '87 or earlier with the R4 compressor for factual info that will help the OP.

xrav22 - FYI, you're missing the lower alternator bracket that attaches to the two, forward most, exhaust manifold mounting studs - see pic below --

I can only make an assumption on the 86 model year. on the 1985 corvette L98, there are a total of five studs on the exhaust manifolds. on the LH manifold, there are three located at the first 3 mounting positions (forward going aft). the first two are used to attach a lower mounting bracket for the alternator, and the third, attaches a 6-7 inch brace that secures to the upper part of the alternator -

on the RH exhaust manifold, the forward most stud secures a short brace to the right side of the AC compressor. a second stud, 4th from the front, secures the oil dipstick tube -

not the best pics, but the OP should get the idea.

Yes the OP should get the idea.

With the alternator change in '86 I thought there should only be on the left side a single stud with the same dimensions as the 2 on the right and maybe in the #2 position. If the OP has his old hardware he should be all set. His alternator brace should only reach one position on the manifold so that should solve that for him.

#1 & 4 right side and #2 left side (I believe)

This is exactly what I needed. I suspected the second one on the passenger side was to hold the dipstick but wanted to verify. Whomever rebuilt my engine had the holder on a short bolt, which mangled it up.

Many Thanks to all who responded so quickly.

You are correct. There is only one brace on my 86 alternator.

I have the old hardware and there are only three stud/bolt combos, with one on driver and two on passenger.
