I want to replace my Bilstein shocks with a low cost alternative until my budget and time will allow me to have my Bilsteins rebuilt and reinstalled. Are the TPIS shocks any better/worse than KYB's?
I replaced my stock Z51 Bilsteins with the TPIS shocks. I really like them. They ride very well (considering the Z51 springs).
TPIS, in their catalog, claims that they were running better track times, at Brainerd, with those shocks.
I had them on my 88 "didn't know any better". I threw them out a few months ago because they're kinda crapy to me. The shocks have little to nothing for resistance and basically allow your car to float around on the springs.
If you plan to compete or get agressive with your car at all, I'd vote for staying away from TPIS shocks.
I don't know if I can help here, but this winter I'm removing a set of Bilsteins from my '85 Z51, to install Edelbrock shocks. They only have a few thousand miles on them and you basically can have them if you cover the freight. Otherwise I would keep saving and get the Edelbrocks. They are just frighteningly good! :seeya
