correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm thinking there are four (4) coolant temperature sensors on the 85 L98 if equipped with HD cooling (RPO V08) or the Z51 package, and three (3) without V08 or Z51. two are located in front of the lower intake manifold (see pic) - one is the CTS and the other for the cold start injector. the CTS controls the main cooling fan through the on-board computer. a third sensor located on the RH or passenger side cylinder head for the dashboard temperature gauge, and a forth sensor on the LH or drivers cylinder head - that sensor-switch is for aux fan (if so equipped with HD cooling or the Z51 package).
(edit) the pic shows the location of coolant sensor (blue arrow). the cold start injector thermo-time switch (red arrow) - used only on the 1985-88 TPI engines.
edit: just realized the sensor locations in the pic are reversed. this pic came from a Camaro site, and I can't swear it is correct. the location of the sensors is opposite from my 85 corvette, and my 85's sensor location seem to be in a natural position for the wiring harness.
Actually, there's still 4 even WITHOUT V08 because there is now an "override" switch for the single main fan.
And in an 85, the aux fan switch OR the override switch for the main fan is on the PASSENGER head, between 6 & 8, and the gauge sender is in the DRIVER head, between 1 & 3. In 86-up, the positions reverse.

damn! I seemed to have my I/P temperature gauge sensor and the aux fan sensors mixed up. thanks for pointing that out - - I would have bet good money on that one, and most likely, lost my **** -
(little confused) looking at my FSM, I don't see anything that addresses an "override" switch for a single fan cooling system - ???
