Default Temp Running Hot

Quick question: I have a 95 C4 and I love it but as I drive I see the temp gauge go higher and higher to like 240 degrees so what I do is turn on the A/C and then it stays at 200 Anyone know if you have this problem or is it just my car???

You sure A/C and not heater? I would think the A/C adds load and would make the car run hotter

Turning on the A/C turns on the cooling fan.

240 isn't much above the fan turn on temp - you're in the realm of normal for an LT1.

If you want cooler, a pcm reflash to have the fans kick on at a lower temp will likely suffice.

Mine runs mostly around 180 +/- 10 degrees depending on conditions. I have the fans programmed lower, a 160 thermostat (stock is 180), 3 core aluminum radiator, and meziere hd waterpump.

If it runs at 240 while going down the road then that's the thing to do. In stop and go traffic some people turn on and off the cooling fans by turning on and off the ac.

I Might try letting the car sit and run w/o the A/C on and make sure the fan comes on around 235-240. I believe that’s the temp it comes on. Also the usual check for debris blocking the radiator. My 92 will stay around 195 at 55mph on a hot day and that’s with no A/C (no fan).

I checked and radiator all clear. I am just use to the tempature needle always being dead center. But as a drive the Vette, it goes to 3/4 to hot. The only way for me to get the needle lower is by running the A/C. Is thi common on all C4's

If the 240 is from the analog gauge, what is showing in the digital display with the speedometer?

BTW I thought my radiator was clear until I pulled it and looked through it.

Good, but did you check BETWEEN the radiator and condenser?

I'll check again. Radiator seems clear but of course dirt can get inside. On my dash I hit gauges and it seems to be correct as I said when it gets too hot I get nervous and turn on A/C that keeps it in normal range

If you read the sticky at the top about C4 LT1 temps you will finds it's not running above normal. The temp drop you experience is because on your 95 when you turn on the AC both fans come on and default to the high speed setting. So that does go against the old school that I was taught also.... you don't turn on the AC to lower engine temps but it will have that effect on our cars particular at low speeds.

You need to read up on the method for cleaning out the junk from between the fins of your radiator. Always use the digital temps not the analog. With a clean properly flowing radiator you won;t have to turn on the AC to maintain 195 - 225 in normal driving
