My Vette will not start. I tried to jump start it and that didn't work. So I charged the battery thinking that might do it, but no luck. When I try to start it, it sounds like it wants to start, but then I see smoke coming up through or around the motor!
Is my starter bad? If so, how much am I looking at to fix it? And where's a the best price for a new starter?
I would check those wires running to the starter....your car is 15 years old, I found that the starter wires near the starter become acid soaked (like the white stuff on a battery terminal) and fray if not tight. There is a whole lot of busy going on down at the starter when you start a car. It could also be the solenoid is engaging but the starter is not. I suggest you take the starter out (two bolts and 3 nuts) and bring it to be tested. They do it free at auto stores these days. If you want you can pick up a remanufactured there also.
