Default Quick - How do I get the engine separated from the tranny?????

All bellhousing bolts and motor mount bolts are out. Is there a special trick to getting the engine and tranny to separate? I've wiggled it, adjusted the hoist height a little, and it won't budge. :smash:

There are nuts and bolts on the flywheel to the convertor (auto) Pressure plate (manual)

If you have all those bolts and nuts off along with all the bell housing bolts off...should slip right off the pins (2) maybe you may need to put a wedge between the block and the bell and give it a nudge. How many bolts did you take out of the bell ?

All 4 of em... :jester

I pulled 6 bellousing bolts, 3 torque converter bolts, and 2 motor mount bolts. Maybe I'll try to work a small screwdriver in there to separate it.

I have sprayed WD40 where the pins are located and that has helped. With the age of the car and if they have never been seperated, They maybe really tight. You will need to apply some pressure to seperate them.

I've never removed one but I copied this from my Chilton Manual for you...............hope it helps.

1. Disconnect the TV cable at the throttle lever or the adjuster assembly
2. Remove the Transmission fluid level indicator.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. If equipped, remove the upper and lower underbody braces.
5. Remove the exhaust system.
6. Support the Transmission on a jack.
7. Remove the drive line support beam.
8. Matchmark and remove driveshaft.
9. Disengage the speedometer electrical connector, then disconnect the shift control cable and the remaining electrical leads from the transmission.
10. Remove the Torque converter and mark the relationship of the converter to the flywheel, then remove the converter-to-flywheel bolts.
11. Disconnect the oil cooler pipes at the transmission. Plug the openings to prevent system contamination or excessive fluid loss.
12. Disconnect the TV cable at the transmission.
13. Remove the transmission-to- engine mounting bolts and fasten the torque converter to the transmission using a converter restraining tool or a length of wire.
14. Carefully move the transmission rearward, downward and out from under vehicle.

Are you removing the trans and bell housing as one unit? I pulled then seperately....

You do have the tranny supported and not holding the engine down, don't you. If you do, you can try wiggling the engine up, down right left just a bit to loosen the dowels. I took the tranny out first and had to wobble a bit to separate.

Three foot long "screwdriver"...Actually a pry bar with a plastic handle; pry each side of bellhousing near where you know the alignment pins are...

They nearly always stick...

BTW: Best to do it in the car...I've seen them spring apart like they were alive..."Sproing!!!"...(and the next sound is a dull thud)... :cuss
