My automatic transmission is dripping a little fluid on the garage floor. It's going to need to be rebuilt eventually. I went to buy some trans fluid and saw a product that is transmission fluid that supposedly stops the tranmission from leaking. It has "stop leak" in the name of the product and claims to stop transmission leaks. Does this stuff work or will it cause more damage to the transmission parts? This is an '85 transmission.
I would leave it alone. I used that stuff a few years ago in my Blazer, and blew it up a few hundred miles later. It could have just been coincidence, but then it my not have. How it works from what I heard was that it expands all your seals, I mean all yor seals........maybe to much, because that is how my tranny blew. It blew out the main seal.
That just my 2 cents................................... :D
determine where the leaks came from and change the seal. Don't have to rebuild if not needed. "Vettemech" walked me through how to change the shift linkage seal. It wasn't as bad as I thought, but sure was messy
I had a very small leak from my transmission (700r4). Then as I was driving about 2 weeks ago, I saw a large cloud of smoke come out from under my car. I had lost all my transmission and burnt up the clutches inside. The cause was the bearing had pushed the front seal out and drained my transmission. If your problem is like mine, it will not keep the bearing from pushing the seal out. Best to have someone look at it. Tom :jester
