got the transmission cable in, seems to shift easily, but will not go to park....any adjustment to make??? can't see anything readily that will do it....any advice will be appreciated.....Paul
Underneath the car on the driver's side of the trans is the linkage that connects the trans to the cable. I haven't done it in a while but to the best of my memory you loosen a nut and slide the bracket or linkage end back and forth to adjust.
OP - you mention having the FSM - see 7A-12 It's quite straight forward. Manual shift lever at trans and shifter in PARK to start!! You need to be sure that both of the retaining clips at the bracket to trans and also to shifter are installed correctly.
got it working correctly this am....despite the fsm saying to loosen the adjustment screw on the cable, there was no adjustment on the cable I got from NAPA....I did put it in park, the end bolt was maybe 1/4 inch from lining up...the "L" bracket holding the cable to the bottom on tranny, seemed to not be 90 degrees so I straightened it up with channel locks...lined the bolt up perfectly in Park. appreciate the help.....now that i've done it, seems pretty straightforward....Only I could stumble my way through it finally....like my new t shirt...old, deaf, blind, but still can hear a UH1D a few miles away.....never give up..... thanks again.....Paul
