thanks to the guys for the tip on the color wires to my VSS...found the other end...I must have run something over to cut those wires like that....there is a sensor with a black wire in my drivers side exhaust....thinking it's the oxygen sensor but I have no clue where it would go...don't see any extra wires hanging around. hope this is all that got ripped up.

Yes, that is the o2 sensor. My advice is get it properly connected. The car will run better under all conditions.

yeah, weird thing is car has been running real good and it obviously has been broken for awhile. found the broken VSS wires, can't see any other loose wires, can't figure out where the damn thing goes. Still trying to dig out from the Hurricane and don't have a lot of time...
OP - O2 sensor wire is "PURPLE" - if the wire to the O2 sensor is ripped/torn buy a new O2 sensor and you can repair the wire in the loom with the appropriate connector BUT DON'T CUT/SPLICE the actual O2 sensor lead between the connector and the actual threaded sensor if that's where your damage is.
If you have hanging loose BLACK wires in the vicinity I would think those are broken from the engine block ground location which is in the same vicinity.

there's about three inches of wire hanging on the sensor. It looked black to me but it was dark and I was under it...still would like to know where it goes....

That's why I posted that image - I'd say it's somewhat obvious. You NEED a new O2!!

Its wont go into "closed loop" without the proper o2 signals. Meaning the ecm wont adjust fuel trim for whatever driving conditions the engine is experiencing.
Damn, sorry to hear bout the hurricane. We got hit pretty hard here in Houston too....I had water intrusion into only one side of my house so no serious damage. I consider myself lucky.

If the sensor was original I believe the PURPLE wire would be secured closer/tighter to the engine with a "rose-bud" retainer and the wire continues rearward.
Do you have the FSM for your car? Your car is an '85 I believe.
I believe it's also maybe easier to do a visual inspection and repair from the top. remove the center wheelhouse panel I'd think because you've much to do in the vicinity there. You've got VSS wire issues also I believe.
If your car is an '85 and you have the FSM check 6D-6, FIG 6D-5 & 6D-8, FIG 6D7-1 for O2 potential routing.

The 85's originally had a black wire O2 sensor. Mine still does, and as the OO, I know it has never been replaced. The purple wire O2 sensor will substitute, and was generally on the shelf at Dealers so it was used to replace the early black-wire sensors. I recall several friends' 2.8 V6 Blazers with black wire sensors that we replaced with purple wire ones.
Perhaps WVZR is referring to the car-side wire as being purple. It probably is, I don't recall its color. If the OP has a hanging black wire that becomes purple after a single cavity connector, then this is it: The black wire IS the O2 sensor wire from an early O2 sensor.
I checked again while I finished the tranny cable job....the wire is black...still haven't found the other end....
