This sounds a lot like my LT1 Firebird did when I first got it running. The #8 conrod bearing spun and stacked both sides on the top end of the opening. Ended up pulling the motor and rebuilding it to the tune of just under $1,000. How is your oil pressure reading? failrf bearings usually produce a lower pressure readout
So far new push rods, rockers, and lifters. Could it be worn valve guides?? when oil temp get's above 214 degrees about 15 to 20 minutes the motor is quite
This is a 96 C4 LT1 at start up it is very quite, after 15 or 20 sec. a slight tapping appears and get's louder, when it gets louder it sounds like it's metallic. mainly on the drivers side. after the motor get's hot the tapping sound get lower and lower to a point after about 15 or 20 minutes it is barely noticeable. Turn the car off let it sit 10 or 15 minutes, start the motor a slight tap appears, then seems to go away.
Replaced al lifters with Delco push rods are straight appear to be ok. When listening to the motor underneath behind drivers side tire it is extremely louder. Also tapping sound seems to be in rhythm with the of the exhaust. Can any one point me in the right direction.
If the noise is louder underneath the car, and it goes away when engine is warm, I would think a really small exhaust leak.
I am going to try those wire ties and also see if I take off the wheel well might make the job a little easer
I don't have a LT1 so take this with a grain of salt. Can you get to the plug wire from the bottom? If so, pull it and start the car and see if it's still making noise. Don't know if that will help or not but worth a shot.
I think I remember reading where someone had noisy injectors, worth a check and see if they're making excessive noise.
