won't start (continued)
The rain let up for a few minutes and I was able to check out the injector harness. I tested one connector from each bank, and used a generic test light since I don't own an injector test light and I don't have a way of getting one out here in Japan without ordering and waiting a few weeks.
I just used some wire and the leads that came with the light.
When connecting the light to the 2 terminals on the harness and cranking the motor, there was no light on either side. I then jumped each terminal to ground and found there to be a constant light when cranking. This is true for both terminals on both connectors.
This brings me to step 7 on chart A-3B in the Driveabilty and Emissions section of the handy dandy GM shop manual for those of you following with your home version of the game.
I'm a little bit confused on what it's trying to tell me to do. It says to reconnect the test light to the injector harness, then disconnect the 4-way connector at the distributor.
I'm ok with that, but then it says to "Momentarily touch harness connector terminal ckt 430 with test light to 12 volts."
I'm not real sure what I should do with this. Can anyone explain what this is doing and maybe clarify exactly what to do. Do I need a second test light to perform this test?
I think we might be getting close on this one.
Chris
The code 34 can be set along with a poor idle if the minimum idle adjustment is not correct. If the idle improved when you disconnected the MAF, then the repair manual says to replace the MAF.
One lead of all your injectors go to 12v and the other lead of the injectors goes to the ECM which pulses them to ground to energize each injector. A low power 12v bulb across each injector coil should also pulse when you are cranking the engine which will prove that the ECM is pulsing the injectors. Also, I would disconnect the hose from the air cleaner to insure that your air cleaner is not clogged preventing air from getting to the engine. I am posting this part and am going to look for ckt 430 to see if I can explain the test recommended.
I just need to figure out this last test, which I think just tests the wiring to make sure it can carry the signal to the injectors and narrows it down to the ignition module.
