Default Torque Converter Install Question

I just put to TC in, but I have a question. Initially, there was a little less than 1/4" gap between the TC and the flexplate. When I started tightening the TC bolts down, the TC slid forward to mesh up with the flexplate. Is that too much of a gap between the flexplate and the TC? I'm using a Yank Stealth 2800 (I thought I ordered a 2600, but the writing on the box and the sticker on the TC both said 2800).

The paper work that came with mine said to check the gap and it should be at least 3/32 but not more then 5/16. I used the shank end of a drill bit to check it. As far as the stall goes I would call Yank direct and ask them.

The stall speed is the highest RPM that can be acheived with the trans in gear, brakes locked and the engine running and the gas pedal floored. Don't do this more than like 10 or 15 seconds because you will overheat the converter and ruin it. in fact I wouldn't do it at all unless it were a test to diagnose a concern. You may or may not read the same stall using the very same converter........ different engines will stall a converter at slightly different speeds. another thing that will affect the stall speed is the ability of the trans to hold without slipping. A trans will also be able to "flash" to a higher rpm than the stall.......... hope that helps :seeya
