I have read up on all the posts & Tech Tips & need help on the following; My antenna is all the way up & won't go down or move. I have tried pushing it down & using WD40. I can hear a slight click at the antenna which I assume is the motor trying to bring it down.
Do I have a broken plastic cable, if so should I replace it or since it is over 15 years old should I just spend the $ and put a new antenna in. I have read there is a upgraded antenna for '84-87 claiming 30% more stations which they started using in '88 for $150 has anyone used one of these & if so it worth the extra $
Thanks for your help.

Re: antenna won't go down (white87vert)
I put in an aftermarket antenna this spring for under $50 and it works fine. I did have to add a double ended female junction cable but it has gone up and down a hundred times and works fine. I would do it again.. :yesnod:
Can you hear the antenna motor running ? If it's running chances are all you need is an antenna mast kit. They are availible from GM for 29.00 and come with destructions and the special little tool to remove the old antenna. Just did one in my ZR-1 awhile back, took at least five minutes to install. 84 CF 91 ZR-1
Your '87 uses the early version, you have to remove and disassemble the motor. I did this during the summer on my '86.,works fine. Cost low $40s for complete mast, you may be able to get just the cable and small section for less. Call Jeff Koop.
