Default fx3 question

what is the difference between early and late fx3 systems? Will fx3 shocks and actuators from a '94 Vette work on a '91?
Thanks
Matt

Please take a moment to inspect the small metal gear located on the top of the shock. Often they are broken and must be replaced before the fx3 system will be restored to working order. We have original equipment gears in stock for 1989 to 1991. We have replacement gears for 1992 and later models in stock also. These gears are made of steel finished in yellow zinc dichromate. There are two different gears used on the shocks in the fx3 system. The difference is in the size of the stop located along the lower edge of the gear. The year of your Corvette determines the type of gear used. See photo below.

My FX3 shocks and actuators are missing from my '91 ZR-1. What I want to know is if I get shocks and actuators off a '94 Corvette will they work on my car?

Not quite the whole truth. If you get the shocks and actuators off of the 94, make sure you get the shock controller. It plugs in and functions 100%. No splicing or adding wires the controllers are the cheapest component to buy. Expect to pay 50-75 bucks for one.

Good point. If you do that, it should work.

To be brutally honest it is not worth the time or expense. My '90 had the FX3 system and it was in perfect working order, but the shock valving is also dependent on speed. I track my car and the FX3 system does not reach full stiff until almost 160mph or something stupid. I need the shocks to be stiff in low speed corners also which doesnt happen. There is a small difference in feel at street speeds but barely noticeable. I ended up pulling the shock actuators and control module out of the car and sold it. I used zip ties to hold the gears in the full stiff position. This made a big difference. Then I replaced those shocks with just an off the shelf Bilstein Sport (budget limited) which was even better than the FX3 shocks. Do do over I would spend the money on decent shocks. You are going to pay a premium for the FX3 stuff when you can get some adjustable QA1s or non adjustable JRi, or Penske, etc for not much more and have a way better shock.
