Recently did the Dana 44 conversion with the 3.45 gear and still need to get the speedometer corrected. From what I've read, I need the following parts:
I'm referencing the post by Mr Mojo a month or so back with all of the GM PNs for the gear swaps. My car was a G92 & G44 RPO codes which from what I have found is a 3.07. I took my 1989 and then found the 3.45 parts# from a 1990 as 3.45 was not offered from the general in 1989.
The big question is, do you need to pull the transmission to install the driven gear? From what I've found, the VSS and drive gear are easy to install, it's the driven gear which is harder to replace. Any thoughts? Just want to know what I'm getting into, or whether to pursue the electronic device to correct the speedo.
Call Jeff Kopp at Superior Chevrolet. I am sure someone here can give you the number. Tell him you’re from the forum and tell him what car, gears you have and he will send the stuff to you for a great price. You will have to remove the tail piece on the tranny to change the gear, it’s not hard but I would say that it would be a good idea to get him to add in two or maybe three speedo gear clips. I kept snapping mine when I changed them. Good luck and keep us posted.. :seeya

I was going to get the parts from Jeff. I just wasn't sure what it took to get to the driven gear. If you had to drop the trans, I was thinking of getting a new torque converter and having the trans shop correct the speedo at the same time as the TC would be installed since they had the trans dropped. If it's something that doesn't require dropping the trans, then I could just get the parts from Jeff and do the install independently from the torque converter.
Wow that should be some help... no you don't have to remove the tranny do do this but if you want a new converter go for it and have them do it at the same time.. just my $.02
This should help you, it did me. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=288585

Thanks guys. That's what I needed to know. (Sigh of relief)
i didn't read the thread that was linked earlier in this thread, so i don't know if this is in there, anyway... 1990 L98 ZF6's have 3.33 rear gears, NOT 3.54. 1991 L98 ZF6 have 3.54
