Default 3rd/4th disappeared last night

You guys may remember me from my 2015 post about an 87 Corvette, fun was had. I bought a Vette without knowing what an alternator was. And it was not a reliable car. But I gotta say, I loved it, and had to get another one. This one is an 88, I love it, but last night doing about 70 I slid into gravel (not knowing there was gravel at the end of that road) I slowed way down and maintained straightness and turned around, car was fine for two miles after that, than suddenly, 3rd and 4th decided to disappear, and I've got nothing, checked the TV cable, seemed good, called a shop and a rebuild is 1686 with the zpack 3/4 clutches and a new shift kit, what do you guys think, is this something that happens all of a sudden like that?

I think either way the trans is coming out of the car for repair so ..... there's that.

I'm not super opposed to having it rebuilt. It'd be nice not to worry about it

Check with a good transmission shop and ask them if they will install the updated/ improved parts in the rebuild. Best guess is about $2,000. Most shop should include a 3 yr,50,000 mile warranty.

Its coming out of the car so my vote is rebuild it in its entirety. Or replace it with something that has zero miles.

I had said, that place I called will rebuild it, as well as do those preventive maintenance fixes like the 9 clutch zpack for 3/4 and a frimer shift kit, my main question is, I'm looking for 300 horse from my l98, what should I do if anything for the 700r4 to handle that

your 1986 corvette already has 305 HP. I pulled my own auto trany and took it to the shop. Saved a bit of coin that way. Also be aware your tranny has numbers stamped on it that goes along with the rest of the numbers on your car. Ask the to rebuild yours and not swap it with s tranny rebuilder service.

My 88... Has 245. Also, they are rebuilding mine and not a donor.
