Default How to remove cables from throttle body?

Alright it's time I removed my throttle body for a cleaning. The thing which scares me the most are the cruise control/throttle cables. I dont want to mess them up. I don't have the tv cable. How do you remove them? Do they require any type of adjustment to get back on?

It was extremely easy on my 88. I haven't looked into other years, but it's probably the same.

Look at where the cables hook up next to the throttle body. Right behind the cables there's a little clip. All you have to do is move the clip over a little so it has room to come off, then pull it off. It's all that's holding the cable on, so they come right off after that. Just be very careful with the clips, because they can be easy to lose.

When you're finished, just put the cables back as you found them and put the clips back on to secure it.

It is that simple. There is no readjustment required.

Are you talking about this clip thing? I notice there's one next to each cable. Just pry it off with a screwdriver?

Yeah, those are the clips.A small screwdriver can help to pry them off.Really easy and as mentioned, easy to lose them too.Dont drop them anywhere arond the engine or theyll never be found.

That's it alright. I didn't have to pry it off with a screwdriver. See how there's a little pin going through it, and it has a "cover" over it? Pull that cover up then you can move the body of the clip itself over to where the hole is big enough to just pull out of.

Exactly. That way they won't fly half way across the garage. :)

Be careful not to bend it, just lift the clip enough to slide it off. Also, I used a shop rag under that area as a safety net just in case I dropped it. After I got them off I put them in a little plastic box with a lid so they didn't get lost. Just a little habit I picked up from working on computers all my life :D
Good luck and remember: Patience is a virtue! :yesnod:

Thanks for the help folks. They easily came off with a screwdriver. I put a plastic bag around them, that way they flew off into the plastic bag. :)

I remember a recent post in which those clips were named "Oh Jesus" clips because of the fact that if you pry too hard they will fly off and you'll say "Oh Jesus, where did that go".
