from what i remember, a few years back john from caravaggio corvettes (an interior decorator not tech specialist) said using a camaro pressure plate with a light weight flywheel ... actually i forgot. Anyone know the combo??? he said a camaro flywheel or pressure plate is used and it works amazing... o well
what i needed to know is those of you who went to a light flywheel, do they all sound loud??? any ways around it?? Do any of you have leftover dual masses that are unmachined for sale??? i need one asap. :cry
Re: Trick for Corvette flywheel.... (388 SOLid RoLLeR)
The deal with the lightweight flywheel is this...
Stock Camaro Steel LT1 Flywheel, machine it down .090-.120 from stock.
Stock Corvette Pressure plate (all of them are made by Valeo).
Your choice of single mass clutch disk based on your power output. The clutch disk should be of sprung hub type to reduce the amount of noise you will hear from the assembly. Centerforce, McCleod, and Spec all have good disks to choose from.
Balance the Flywheel for your engine! If your engine is internally balanced, have the flywheel neutral balanced. If it is externally balanced, you will have to have weights added to it accordingly. Some machine shops can use your old flywheel to make the proper adjustments if the old flywheel is balanced properly for the engine.

I was using a centerforce clutch and camaro flywheel for a few years. Worked great, only complaint was the noise at idle and at 2500-3000 rpms going through the gears. Switched back to the dual mass, had enough.

What is reason for machining the Stock Camaro flywheel? Also couldn't you use a complete clutch assembly from Center force or SPEC, instead of the stock pressure plate?

Sure you could simply buy the whole assembly, but they are all Valeo pressure plates. I have read Centerforce adds some kind of weights the theirs that are not necessarily ideal, and SPEC told me that they modify theirs to have different holding weights, but it looks and feels identical to stock so I have my doubts.
While we are speaking about pressure plates, does anyone know if you can have the surface on a pressure plate "resurfaced"? I hate to shell out yet another $250 for a new one.
You really need to hear a car with a SM before you decide to go with it. It is fairly loud under some conditions and can be quite irratating if those conditions occur often.
