Default 700r4 tail change

My friend got a 700r4 transmission from Bowtie with a 1969 corvette tail. I am interested in buying it.If i change the tail and speedo gear to mine that is a 1984 i can work? Or have to modify the output shaft?

Only measuring would confirm but so long as it's a 700R4 I'd think you would be fine. Is it a 700R4 with the AUX Valve body or just what? The cut-off of the shaft isn't an issue. It's generally assumed the the 700R4 output has both locations for the drive gear mounting.

It’s not with the AUX valve body.

..... A 69 Corvette should have had a TH400 ... if what you have is truly a 700R4 it's most likely from a car or truck with the crossmember mount tail housing on it ... the output shaft probably needs to be cut a bit shorter ... as I recall , the difference is 5/8ths of an inch ... but before you cut anything , you need to know what you have ... the TH400 has a vacuum modulator on the passenger side near the dipstick tube ... TH350 vacuum modulator is on the back of the case ... 700R4 does not have a vacuum can but does have a TV cable next to the dipstick and a square electrical connector on the drivers side about mid way facing straight up ... external I.D. of the aux valve body 700R4 is a casting mark on the pass side of the trans shaped like the side view of a cam lobe that encircles the oil cooler line fittings and the servo .....

If it is a 700R4 it can be identified pretty easily as to original build the case was from. Here's an image of the AUX BODY casting "C409" mentioned and reliable decoding of case information.

It’s a 1986 700r4 with a C3 tail....
