took my door panel apart finally yesterday to fix the door light (had been out since I bought it). When I got in there I realized why my wipers weren’t working-the switch was unplugged! I plugged it in, but then the wiper motor started to run continuously. I swapped with another (known good) switch and it did the same thing. I have a full donor car so I’m not afraid to throw some parts at it-what do I need to do? I’ve read that it could be a dirty slider (less likely because two different switches did it), or a bad wiper control board. How do I clean the slider? Where is the control board?
Since you have a donor I believe it's likely easier to swap the motor so long as the connectors are identical. Many I believe when they go inside the motor to swap park relay etc actually do more damage. Always? No but I believe often enough.
It would also be an excuse to adjust the crank arm and transmissions to correct any parking issues. 30+ year old cars nearly always have parking issues or wiping issues.
So the relay is in the motor? I’ve got another motor assembly that I can pop in there. I’ll try that next.
I'd think you shouldn't need to actually install to confirm. If connectors match you hold the motor and test. If it works as expected then you do the swap. It's important regardless of year you confirm connectors. If a service motor was ever put on either car I'm quite sure connectors change.
I had that "wipers won't shut off " problem after a short thunderstorm last summer...pulled off the connectors to the wiper motor and replaced a few times, then all was good again... cleaned off the connectors, ok so far.
But I get the feeling that I'll see this problem again soon...

thank you!
Hi
Check the wiper motor, the cover has the wiper position arm that is used in the park circuit.
Also check the two connector pins in the right side of wiper motor they connect to the park board cover, i had the bottom one break and the wipers would not stop. Now you cannot buy new ones so i used a spade terminal to fit the plug and connect to the park board cover.
New motors do not come with these you have to reuse your old ones but one of mine broke, keep a look out for these spring terminals.
I also had the intermittant wipers jam when switch was set to delay, not returning to the usual pause position.

I've replaced these contactors with no issues on other GMs also.. I've seen people bust up the internals attempting to get to them. That's why I suggested trying a spare first.
Here's the wiper motor internals that have been mentioned.
that is about the only benefit to crashing your reddy! parts car
yup. wife is getting tired of it sitting in the driveway though. once it gets warm out I need to strip her down for parts and take the frame to the scrap yard.
