Default Question for 383 guys

My motor is about done! Latest problem is that the windage tray in the stock pan does not even come close to fitting the strocker crank. Was gonna just leave it off. What did YOU do?

get one of these and space it about 1/8" from the rotateing assembly, washers on the studs can be used

I was looking at this earlier this evening. (while stuffing my face) Was thrown off when it said "will not fit 400". Did you still use the stock pan? Am trying to keep it a "stealth sleeper".

on a 400 block you need to elongate the mounting holes in the windage screen and bend the mounting strip slightly because the 400 has larger main bearings the main cap bolts are spaced slightly further apart, yeah its a minor P.I.T.A. but it can be made to fit correctly, normally yes carefull fitting will allow the stock oil pan to be used (mount the screen about 1/8" from the rotateing assembly if possiable

Whatever you do, DO NOT leave it off. Either find a way to use one if you're keeping the stock pan, or get a larger oil pan that has one built in. The machine shop that did my motor didn't contact the shop that was installing it and they left mine off thinking I was going to a 7qt pan. Well I hadn't planned on it. I was planning on using my 5qt for now. After I got my clutch broke in, I started getting on the motor and finding out I was losing oil pressure at higher rpms. :mad It turned out they hadn't put the stock oil baffle back on and my choices were to either replace my main cap bolts or get a bigger pan. Since I didn't want those bolts removed, and I had intended on getting the Canton pan later, I opted for the bigger pan and a high volume pump. Everything is fine now! :yesnod:
