Depress the Button Pull handle up you should capture the cable and the Ratchet will release and with Button still depressed return to Bottom of travel Brake should be Released it could take a couple of passes to fully release, If not there may be a Problem with Ratchet release rod or something else.

The ratchet assembly gets gummed up after time. remove the seat so you get good accesses, remove cover and clean and re-lube the ratchet assy. put some oil on the cable and work it in.

Last fall I pulled my handle to hard and pulled the cable out of where it is to fit. I hope it can just be put back in place but will have to pull seat to get mechanism out. Cable is ok. I guess I don't know my own strength well. When I was farming I was always twisting off bolts for lightening to tight. My dad would get upset as we would have to drill them out.
