Hi guys. This is my first post here. I've read quite a few previously. Here's my question. I've got just the basic mods done now (cat-back, K&N, etc) and I'm thinking of getting the Superram and base kit from LPE, along with Airflow Research's CNC ported heads, and a 52mm TB. The shop that I go to already called LPE, got the necessary info about the parts, and has given me an estimate. The shop's (and my) only question is this: I have the hypertech stage I chip in the vette now -- what will I have to do w/the chip to accomodate these mods (i.e., new chip, custom chip)??
thanks,
Re: Computer question w/Superram and heads (90Black on Black)
A custom chip will be your only option with the speed density. I would either go Ed Wright (fastchip.com) or Formato (fasterproms.com) My car would barely run after my modifications. I swapped in the chip and after a 100 or so miles she started to come around.
Re: Computer question w/Superram and heads (RocketSled)
your also totally insane if you don't spring for a cam change while your this far in it, buy the accel 219 or a comp 218/224 grind. with your other mods that cam change should be worth nearly 50hp. the 219 also passes emissions for most people.
Re: Computer question w/Superram and heads (90Black on Black)
and don't forget to recoup some money by selling your heads. they're a good casting and generally go for $400-$500. They always seem to sell quick in the parts for sale section here.
Re: Computer question w/Superram and heads (90Black on Black)
I have a 1990 speed density too.
I put a ZZ9 cam in, AFR heads, and the super ram, had a chip burned, all that poopie.
my car runs perefectly fine with the stock chip. It is not configured correctly to the combo this way. The top end is a bit dead, but it drives just fine to the smog station, blows through emissions and drives back home.
