My 93 wouldn't start, just crank over. I tried some starting fluid which did nothing, suggesting a no fire problem. My VATS has been programmed out and other ignition keys didn't help, should this have been a key chip problem even with the VATS disabled. The car started when I tried just before calling the tow truck. It's running perfectly now, and I was wondering if anyone could lead me in the right direction on something to check or replace. The only thing that I can think of is maybe a Ignition Control Module going bad. Any suggestion are greatly appreciated.
Anything would be a guess. You will need be prepared with spark tester and fuel pressure gauge to at least narrow it down. You could make sure connections are seated. Check for codes. No starts won't always set codes, because ecm doesn't take over until 400 rpm.
When you had the no start - do you remember hearing the fuel pump run ??? Obviously - It could be quite a number of things - a bad fuel pump relay is certainly among them. Try to remember to listen for the sound of the fuel pump running when you switch the Ignition to "on".
I'd also suggest putting a pair of disposable nitrile or latex gloves in the car - so if you get the no start - you can try to pull a spark plug wire and get someone to crank over the car. Figuring out if you have spark during a no start is a good chunk of the troubleshooting...
