My belt needs changed very soon. I have sh** for tools. Do I nee anyhting special, and is there anything I need to be sure of? This kind of thing has to be too easy to have a garage take care of (read: I have limited mechanical ability :jester but I'm suree I can at least handle it)
You need a 1/2" drive breaker or the special tool that fits into the rectangular opening in the far end of the tensioner. This tool must fit between the front of the tensioner and the frame cross-member.
You insert the tool, press down on the tensioner (toward the center of the engine), slip the belt off the A/C pulley and remove the belt.
Then thread the new belt over all the pulleys except the A/C pulley, press down on the tensioner tool, slip the belt over the A/C pulley (a flat blade may help here), check that the belt is still on all the pulleys and slowly release the tensioner.
Inspect the tensioner to assure that the reference mark is positioned between the two marks on the front cover.
