Default 1986 Instrument Cluster Removal

my instrument cluster will not come out oo my 1986 vette. It is hung somehow on the right side. Any clips or bolts, etc on the right rear I need to know about? The dash is completely out, all 4 bolts are out, and it will not remove.

The 4 bolts is all that keeps it in. Bend an old screwdriver to use as a hook to grab behind the cluster. Should pull straight out. The connectors are on the top but you should have some slack to pull it partially out before disconnecting the harnesses.

I always had to remove the center console piece to get my long needle nose
in there to disconnect. For some reason my lower bundle has no slack at all.
You may have blue locking tabs, I left them off during install as the plugs are not going to fall off anyways.

op, is the cluster loose and can't be removed because it's hitting the upper dash pad? If so, you can remove the pad. I just push it upwards.

It's not necessary to remove the upper dash pad. Remove the screws at the front (nearest you) of the pad and lift it a bit to give you some wiggle room.

True, it isn't necessary but it sure makes the job easier. If I remember it only has two screws and then you pull it straight towards you. Easy peers. Watch the Batee videos, that's how he does it.

To the OP. The electrical cable to the cluster is a pain. That cable is not very long. The connector has a plastic rod that latches into the matching connector. I used a medium screwdriver to prize that plastic rod up and push back the connector so it will unlock.
You had to be there.
